FORENSIC TECHNICIAN

Job duties: Responsible for receiving forensic evidence into the lab from law enforcement officers. Advise requesting agencies on recommended laboratory tests for evidence and advise requesting agencies or individuals to retrieve complete evidence. Creates case records and enters data, including case demographics and lab test assignments, using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Maintains location and security of evidence in vault area and maintains records. Distributes evidence within the crime lab according to the appropriate chain of custody, performs basic office activities and testifies in court as required regarding the chain of custody. Assists forensic experts in case work. This may include reviewing evidence, instrumental techniques, and/or other assigned tasks to assist with casework. Performs administrative case management tasks such as case assignment and case filing. Performs basic laboratory quality control tasks, including reagent preparation, equipment checks, and safety checks. Assume laboratory housekeeping responsibilities, including cleaning glassware and managing laboratory supplies.

Minimum qualifications: Education and Experience: Education equivalent to a standard high school diploma and two years of full-time experience in one or a combination of the following: (1) any professional laboratory work or; (2) lay laboratory work receiving and classifying evidence or; (3) any professional law enforcement work or; (4) the unprofessional work of law enforcement receiving and filing evidence. OR Substitution of Education for Experience: Course credits received from an accredited college or university may substitute for required experience on a monthly basis up to a maximum of two years (for example, 45 quarters hours can replace one year of the required experience). live).

Monthly pay: $2,769 – $4,430

CRIMINAL RECORDS UNIT

Job duties: Responsible for performing entry-level criminal background review work, including verifying and updating criminal background information for decisions, diversions, fingerprinting submissions and/or expungement orders. Conducts background checks for local and/or state law enforcement agencies, Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders, attorneys, clerks, employment agencies, and the general public in accordance to state and federal laws. Translates and explains criminal justice terms, processes, procedures and documentation. Captures and stores descriptive data, fingerprint records, deceased person records, and background check results in appropriate databases. Minimum qualifications: Education and Experience: Two years of coursework at an accredited college or university. Substitution of Experience for Education: Full-time work experience in a criminal justice setting may be substituted for required education on an annual basis up to a maximum of two years.

Monthly pay: $1,874 – $2,998

Job duties: Receive and process criminal history information from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, clerks, and the general public using appropriate databases [i.e., Access databases, Computerized Criminal History (CCH) database, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), Expungement database, Diversion database, Tennessee Open Records Information System (TORIS), Tennessee Applicant Processing Services (TAPS) to process data. Provide and communicate criminal history information to external vendors, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies by e-mail or in person. Analyze criminal history descriptive data to determine appropriate response and notification.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Two years of coursework at an accredited college or university. Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional experience in a criminal justice setting may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis to a maximum of two years.

Monthly Salary: $1,874 – $2,998
