University of Canberra and Cisco Establish National Cybersecurity Partnership

Improving Australia’s cybersecurity resilience is the goal of a new partnership between the University of Canberra and global technology company Cisco. The partnership includes:

  • The creation of Innovation Central Canberra – a hub for industry and government to validate cybersecurity technologies, develop prototypes and de-risk the adoption process. The Innovation Center is the sixth in a nationwide network of Cisco Innovation Centers located on college campuses.
  • The creation of a Joint Research Chair in Critical Infrastructure and Defence. The chairholder will focus on applied research related to cybersecurity in several industries, including defence.
  • Expansion of the Cisco Networking Academy at the University of Canberra, which offers learning programs for careers in technology, including cybersecurity.

October 19, 2022, Canberra – Cisco and the University of Canberra announced a partnership focused on addressing the cybersecurity skills shortage, securing Australia’s critical infrastructure, and expanding the National Industry Innovation Network ( NIIN), an alliance of businesses and universities focused on the role digital can play in addressing Australia’s economic and social challenges.

The partnership, which focuses on defense and critical infrastructure, will allow companies to experiment with new technologies, collaborate on applied research and address anticipated cybersecurity skills shortages.

“Cybersecurity is a major challenge for us at all levels, and certainly for industry, government and academia – therefore it is also a major source of new jobs and innovation. Australia has d ‘huge opportunities to improve its resilience against cyberattacks, including the use of advanced digital technologies,’ said Professor Paddy Nixon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra.

“Improving Australia’s cyber resilience will require action on several fronts: industry-driven research, applied innovation and a focus on meeting current and future demand for specialist skills.

“The University of Canberra looks forward to working with Cisco and other industry and education partners to address some of the country’s most pressing challenges related to cybersecurity and broader digital adoption.

As part of the partnership, the University of Canberra and Innovation Central Canberra will join the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN), an alliance between industry and academia that aims to realize digital opportunities that can benefit the lives of all. The australians.

The Cybersecurity Research Chair will also be integrated into the NIIN and will benefit from Cisco’s global partnerships and complementary capabilities offered by this network in critical infrastructure, securing assets of national interest and the defense sectors.
