The University of Melbourne pivots its digital cloud strategy through a partnership with Talend

Australia’s leading university embarks on migrating data to the cloud to improve operations, mitigate risk and identify opportunities to improve student experience

COMPANY NEWS: Talend, a global leader in data integration and management, today announces that the University of Melbourne (UoM) has selected Talend Data Fabric for its cloud data platform, helping the institution public vocation to meet changing business needs to move and manage healthy data across cloud, hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions quickly turned to distance and blended learning, resulting in an unprecedented economic impact for institutions with declining student enrollment and commercial income. To address the significant effects on their business, UoM was determined to attract students with an improved customer experience and new offers and resources through knowledge of their data.

“Last year, UoM’s integration platform strategy was set to transition the university’s current hybrid integration platform to a cloud-based integration platform at the target state,” said Daniel Buttigieg, Director, Enterprise Technology, Business Services, University of Melbourne. “With our new Talend-powered data ecosystem, we can close current gaps in toolsets, pain points to support future strategic projects, and streamline the integration platform.”

UoM has decided to decommission its legacy on-premises data platform with a preference for a cloud-based solution to address gaps and new requirements identified in the university’s strategy, this includes compliance with needs from the UoM cybersecurity team and native support for multiple connectors aligned with applications in the academic ecosystem.

By choosing Talend Data Fabric, UoM can provide a streamlined data integration process with support for cloud-based data integration to ensure it meets the needs of the company’s SaaS strategic direction. ‘university. Talend removes technology and skill-based barriers allowing a larger user base to work effectively with data across the organization. Talend Data Fabric will support a variety of on-premises-to-on-premises, cloud-to-on-premises, and cloud-to-cloud data integration needs, including large-scale data migration activities such as CRM implementations and advanced ERP.

“By transforming rapidly, the university community has demonstrated its resilience and capacity for digital transformation during a very difficult time,” said Mark Fazackerley, Regional Vice President, Australia and New Zealand, Talend. “The University of Melbourne is doing the right thing by focusing on its data to enter the post-pandemic world. We are extremely proud that Talend has been selected to support them in this strategy to achieve organization-wide data health.

Earlier this year, the University of Melbourne joined the Talend University Alliance program, a higher education program that addresses the shortage of skilled data workers and the growing demand for data integration expertise. The academic program provides free software technologies and comprehensive data integration courses that can be applied to students’ future professional careers in data analysis and research.
