What a beautiful time, it’s the right time… to start your job search!
Use the winter holidays to your advantage by devoting some of your free time to preparing for your career. This is the perfect time to start working on your resume, cover letter, practice interview skills, and apply for jobs and internships! Additionally, several on-campus employers are opening spring applications for on-campus jobs and internships and off-campus employers are hiring for seasonal, part-time, and internship positions.
Shine like a STAR
The STAR method is an interview technique that allows you to tell a complete and linear story of your experience. It consists of situation, task, action and result.
- Situation: Paint a precise picture and set the scene.
- Task: What was your role/responsibility in this situation?
- Action: Tell the employer what action you have taken to resolve this issue and complete the task.
- Result: What were the results and your achievements?
Check out the Indeed article “How to use the STAR interview answering technique” for a detailed analysis!
Looking for an on-campus internship? Discover the Digital Media CoLab (CoOperative Laboratory) at Montclair State University. Currently, they are recruiting for eight internships and most positions are open to all majors!

- Build your social network by using professional sites, such as LinkedIn.
- Search internal job sites.
- Discuss job posting organizations where your friends or acquaintances are currently employed.
