The San Antonio Independent School District Board of Trustees approved increases of up to 3% for full-time staff, a higher increase than recommended.
The raises, which are based on a tier system, were approved on Monday evening with part-time wage increases and modified replacement rates. The new compensation plans are expected to take effect on or after July 1, before the start of the 2022-23 school year on August 16.
According to the district, increases for full-time employees were based on a 3%-2%-1% staggered increase:
Full-time campus staff and district staff whose base salary is less than $100,000 will receive a 3% increase.
Campus administration such as Principals, Associate Principals, Deputy Principals, Network Directors and Associate Network Directors will get a 2% increase.
Off-campus staff earning $100,000 or more in base salary will receive a 1% increase.
The recommended general salary increase for full-time staff was 2%, but district officials said they wanted to be able to keep “high-quality teachers in every classroom.”
Board Chair Christina Martinez said the district also wanted to show support for the staff, who are dealing with the effects of COVID-19 and the cost of inflation.
“We have decided to move forward with a general salary increase at several levels to give a higher percentage to low-wage and campus staff who work directly with students, while taking into account the contribution of the community and keeping overall salary costs below this same percentage. would have done at all levels,” Martinez in a press release. “We absolutely want to honor all of our staff, and therefore we have approved an increase for all employees to levels that would still allow us to be good financial stewards. We look forward to when our budgetary difficulties are behind us. , and we can still show our appreciation with future increases.
For part-time and locum pay increases, the compensation plan includes:
An increase from $9.25 per hour to $12 per hour for general campus and department positions.
An increase to $16 per hour for established part-time SEMS/SERS Clerks and Consulting Clerks to align with the entry rate for full-time non-exempt positions.
The plan offers different pricing for certified, graduate, and non-graduate replacements based on high-need days such as Mondays and Fridays and in-demand campuses. A new pay structure for substitute teaching assistants has different rates for special education versus general classrooms.
