A local cybersecurity firm has become the first international organization to gain Pentagon approval to offer cybersecurity certification services in the United States.

South Australian cybersecurity firm Secure State has announced that it is now eligible to offer CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) assistance to Australian organizations after receiving clearance from the US Department of Defense (DoD).

The CMMC – an assessment framework and assessor certification program – is designed to provide assurances of compliance with standards published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States.

As such, Secure State’s access to the framework – developed by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for the acquisition and maintenance, for the U.S. Department of Defense — enables the company to provide local businesses with access to the US supply chain.

Luke Smith, Director and Founder of Secure State, welcomed the opportunity to become the first Australian company to provide CMMC services to local stakeholders.

“It’s a game-changer for businesses here in South Australia in the local defense supply chain and across the country who seek to tap into the U.S. defense supply chain, to help grow their business while supporting jobs and economic growth in this vital sector” , Smith said.

“We are extremely proud that Secure State has achieved this approval which will allow us to help customers in turn obtain the certification required in the United States so that they can enter what is a lucrative market, and which is called to be increasingly important to the nation and our region on the back of the AUKUS agreement.

“Our message to local businesses in South Africa – the State of Defense – as well as those across the country, is that now is the time to bring your business up to date on cybersecurity, as it is a consideration absolutely vital for any business, regardless of size.”

Secure State is also the first international organization of registered providers to be licensed to offer consultancy and implementation services to Australian businesses.

“If a local defense supply chain company aspires to become a U.S. Department of Defense entrepreneur, the reality is that CMMC certification is mandatory,” Smith said.

“It is a cybersecurity framework that applies to all contractors and subcontractors dealing with the Department of Defensewho works with over 300,000 contractors and subcontractors – so it’s incredibly exciting that South Australian and Aussie businesses could benefit.
