Identity Threat Detection and Response technology extends Proofpoint’s people-centric security vision to thwart identity-based breaches, including ransomware

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 12 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Proofpoint Inc., a leading cybersecurity and compliance company, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Illusive, a leader and pioneer in detection and response to identity threats (ITDR). The acquisition is expected to be completed by January 2023, subject to customary closing conditions.

With this acquisition, Proofpoint will enhance its market-leading information and threat protection platforms by adding proactive identity risk detection and remediation as well as robust breach defense capability, providing a unified solution that extends full attack chain protection for critical threats. such as ransomware and data breaches.

The global increase in cyberattacks has been made possible by attackers changing their tactics and focusing on identity-based attacks, with 84% of organizations experiencing an identity-related breach in course of the past year. These attacks cut across identities – from privilege escalation to lateral movement and abuse of Active Directory and cloud environments, such as Microsoft 365. With Illusive, Proofpoint’s unique visibility into which identities are under attack and vulnerable within an organization will provide enterprises with unprecedented insight into their privileged access attack surface and powerful single control to better protect their Highly Attacked People (VAPs).

“It is currently far too easy for an attacker to turn a compromised identity into a ransomware incident or organization-wide data breach,” said Ryan Kalember, executive vice president, cybersecurity strategy, Proofpoint. . “The acquisition of Illusive reinforces Proofpoint’s commitment to innovation and growth, bringing market-defining technology to make the job of threat actors as difficult as possible.”

Illusive’s solutions are trusted by the biggest multinationals, protecting some of the world’s most recognizable brands by removing what attackers need to carry out their crime: access to a privileged account.

“Illusive solves a problem others can’t by focusing on protecting identity security vulnerabilities and stopping the threat of ransomware, which has galvanized global demand for our solution,” Ofer said. Israel, founder and CEO of Illusive. “We are excited to join Proofpoint and add our unique ITDR approach to its people-centric vision of security, helping organizations address the risks associated with privileged identities and understand the potential ramifications of compromise. , such as access to critical data and intellectual property.

Together, Proofpoint and Illusive will provide comprehensive identity security as part of Proofpoint’s Threat Protection Platform, including:

  • Automatically discover and remediate identity vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them with Illusive Spotlight™: With its agentless approach, Illusive Spotlight provides unparalleled visibility into vulnerable identities by scanning directory structures (e.g., Active Directory), Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions, endpoints, servers, and services , revealing the gaps between the security intention of an organization’s political identities and the reality of their environment.

  • Identity threat detection and response to stop privilege escalation and lateral movement to critical assets with Illusive Shadow™: Unlike other deception technologies that deploy agents or honeypots that can warn or be exploited by the attacker, Illusive Shadow’s agentless architecture prevents attacker detection and is undefeated in over 150 red team drills. It enables organizations to deterministically accelerate threat detection by identifying threats based on the attacker’s interaction with the deceptions, not probabilistic checks based on signatures or behaviors.
