Plans for city administrator suspended

Plans to create a city administrator position for Canal Winchester are on hold for the time being after the city council discussed further the details of the position and the mayor’s future salary and duties.

Council approved funding at its November 21 meeting for a city administrator in the 2023 budget. However, an ordinance establishing the position was not withdrawn from the committee for consideration by council.

“I have no problem with a municipal administrator. I have a problem with a city administrator and a full-time mayor for the city our size,” Councilwoman Jill Amos said. “Fiscally, I don’t think it’s responsible. If we go the route of a city administrator, it has to be more of a part-time mayoral position.

Mayor Mike Ebert, who works full-time, will receive a base salary of $100,842 this year and in 2023. His current term ends Dec. 31, 2023.
