Owen Andrew Tomsic | Geauga County Maple Leaf

« Back to obituaries

Owen Andrew Tomsic left this world too soon, at the age of 16 on October 18, 2022, when his life was just beginning to unfold. He was born on May 7, 2006.

Owen attended NDES and Berkshire High School, where his passion for music blossomed. He enjoyed being involved in many orchestras and never hesitated to take the stage. His keen sense of the trumpet led him to tap dance and the national anthem several times at the Put-in-Bay Boardwalk, or jump on stage to play with a band.

He also recently composed an arrangement for all sections of the Berkshire Marching Band. Owen excelled in everything he was passionate about, including disc golf, bowling and his electric skateboard. His love of Ramen noodles was matched only by his high pinball scores, which will be a lasting reminder of his dedication and perseverance.

Owen was a blinding light that couldn’t be dismissed when he was in your presence. When his heart was open he was so kind and creative and funny. He fought hard and during his dark times we all waited for the light to return so we could dance again in music and light.

Owen had a strong work ethic and most recently worked at Sharon James Cellars, where he was treated like family and loved working there. He had several other part-time jobs, including at the Island hardware store, where he and his family spent summer weekends.

Everyone who knew Owen had nothing but the highest compliments to give.

Owen is survived by his parents, Lewis and Kristen (née Wood) Tomsic; sister, Hayden; maternal grandmother, Katherine Wood; paternal grandparents, Lewis (Debbie) Tomsic and Joan (Jack) Hageman; Uncle Nathan Wood (Joni) and cousins Reese and Emerson; Uncle Ryan Wood (Valerie) and cousins Miranda and Matthew; Aunt Angela Daugherty (Joe) and her cousins Taylor, Damon and Mason; aunt Christine Mahoney (Michael) and cousins Shannon, Gordon and Martina; and dear extended family and friends too numerous to list.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Don Wood.

Visitation will be held at the Sly Family Funeral Home in Middlefield on Monday, October 24, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Berkshire Tunebackers (http://paypal.me/backthetunes).
