ST JAMES, Jamaica – The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) and the HEART NSTA Trust will partner with more than 30 companies for a job fair to be held in conjunction with Expo 2022 .
The Expo, now in its 30th year, kicks off Friday, November 4 with the job fair from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Montego Bay Convention Center. The show ends on Sunday, November 6.
MBCCI and its partners are looking to fill over 1,200 vacancies in tourism, business process outsourcing, security, information technology, sales and debt collection.
This is the first year Expo 2022 organizers have included a job fair in the list and according to MBCCI President Oral Heaven, the goal is to find qualified and certified people to fill these positions.
“Ensuring the human capital exists to serve our members and the City of Montego Bay is critical at this time, hence our reason for partnering with HEART,” Heaven said.
“There is a need for entry-level and mid-level management personnel who are ready to work and pivot in the ever-changing tourism and BPO industry. Demand in these industries stems from a shortage of workers that dates back to the disruption of tourism activities by the novel coronavirus pandemic around the world, which led to a reduction in the number of people employed in the sector,” he said. note.
According to Heaven, the response to the job fair has been very positive with potential candidates calling from as far away as Ocho Rios to St Ann to access vacancies.
“Ideally the Chamber is targeting qualified people in St James, Hanover, Westmoreland and Trelawny, however the job fair is not limited to people from other parishes on the island. In fact, hotels such as Couples Resorts are looking for staff for their St Ann and Negril properties,” the MBCCI said.
Interested individuals are encouraged to bring at least three copies of their resume with them to apply for more than one employment sector to improve their chances of finding employment. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., with interviews scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at Block C of the Montego Bay Convention Center.
HEART NSTA/Trust’s mobile assessment unit will also be accessible during the job fair, especially for people in the IT and customer service industry who are currently employed and require certification, as well as for those who will qualify for a job requiring certification.
