Fortunately, there are plenty, with the recent report “The Guide to the IT Professions” finding that the number of IT jobs has increased by 14% over the past five years, just behind the 21% in the IT sector. health.
The research was conducted by ACS – Australia’s technology industry trade association – in partnership with Lightcast, the global leader in job analytics, and has analyzed millions of job vacancies in Australia since 2016.
Key findings included that cybersecurity job openings had doubled in five years; most IT roles were in NSW, Victoria and Canberra and employers required soft skills like communication, teamwork and planning as much as technical skills.

“The Guide to the IT Professions report highlights the great opportunities in the technology sector and how fierce the competition for talent now is,” said Jo Dalvean, vice president of ACS. “For employers, the report shows how important it is to establish alternative pathways in industry beyond IT-related degrees. Some of the best talent in the industry does not go through traditional career progression .
Dalvean also went on to say that for tech students and workers, the report shows the potential of emerging technologies. Regardless of what you are currently studying or what field you are qualified in, there are great career opportunities in the years to come, he says.
