Midland’s Money spins into a great season of frosh for Hope

As a freshman at Midland High, Al Money made an immediate impact on the baseball field and went on to an outstanding four-year career for the Chemics. Now, he hopes that trend will continue to the next level.

Money kicked off his college career with a strong freshman campaign for Hope College last spring, starting at third base for the Flying Dutch throughout the season and finishing among the team’s leaders in many categories.

“I think I did pretty well because it was my first year. I think there are definitely things to improve and places where I can improve, but it was definitely a good start,” Money said.

Good start, indeed.

Money committed just eight errors on 112 hot-corner chances for the Dutch, while at plate his .314 batting average was fourth-best on the team, his .474 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the league. For the team, its 37 hits were tied for fourth, its 44 runs scored were third and its 24 RBI was tied for sixth.

Ironically, Money, who has led Midland High and Berryhill Post 165 for the past two years, moved up to No. 9 in Hope’s roster.

“I liked it. It went pretty well,” he said of the shot on the nine hole. , you understand how to hit where you are placed.”
