Michigan Students Among Havenpark Communities Scholarship Winners

Nineteen students from across the country received an award from the Operator of Manufactured Home Communities

Holland, Mich., May 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Two Michigan the students were among 19 college scholarship recipients from Havenpark Communities, an operator and developer of manufactured home communities. The awards are part of Havenpark’s expansion of its Education Success program, which provides financial support, mentorship and other educational initiatives to increase educational access and opportunity for residents.

David Sanchezwhich will begin its third semester at Grand Rapids Community Collegesaid the scholarship would supplement the full-time work he balances while meeting the high costs of books, tuition and other expenses, while Brenden Searwho will start Michigan Technological Universitysaid the funds would go a long way toward her tuition.

“Work has a big impact on your happiness,” said Sanchez, who is studying to get into information technology. “I really want to work with computers. I am passionate about talking about it and working on it. This scholarship will definitely play a part in helping with the cost of books and tuition.”

Sears, who will be graduating from Lake Orion High School in Township of Orion next month plans to study chemical engineering, which he believes will provide many opportunities for his career.

“My first three years are almost paid off now,” Sears said. “It’s amazing and certainly helps alleviate a lot of the student debt that a lot of people struggle with.”

Havenpark announced the scholarship winners last month, where winners were awarded up to $10,000 annually to cover post-secondary expenses of colleges, universities, trade schools and vocational schools. In its second year, the initiative has grown exponentially since its pilot project in 2021, which awarded two scholarships to residents of Indiana and Ohio. Havenpark’s program promises at least $500,000 each year to support education initiatives.

Scholars participate in Havenpark’s Mentorship Program, which provides students — many of whom are first-generation students — with encouragement, support, and resources to successfully complete their journey toward a certificate or degree.

“We are incredibly proud of the scholarship recipients and their hard work,” said Robbie Prat, general manager of Havenpark. “David and Brenden have shown an incredible drive to succeed, and we are excited to see their future accomplishments, and the accomplishments of all Fellows.”

Each scholarship recipient will receive up to $10,000 per year and can be renewed for three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is obtained. Just over two-thirds of recipients plan to attend a four-year college or university, and about one-third plan to attend a two-year or vocational-technical school.

The application period for the 2022 Competitive Scholarships ran from December 15, 2021for January 31, 2022, with about half of the applicants awarded scholarships. To be eligible, applicants had to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher, be either a current resident of a Havenpark community, or have a parent/guardian who is a resident and must plan to enroll or continue registration in its entirety. – full-time or part-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in United States for the whole academic year 2022-2023. Scholarships can be transferred from a two-year institution to a four-year intuition and vice versa.
