Apple’s new support for security keys in iOS 16.3 means there’s no reason people not use multi-factor authentication, especially hardware-based multi-factor authentication, providing the best cybersecurity defense against the theft of your credentials during a data breach or via a phishing attempt.
“With 90% of breaches linked to stolen credentials in phishing attacks, it’s exciting to see Apple users have the ability to take their account security into their own hands. With the new iOS 16.3 update, users now have the ability to enhance their account security by adopting physical security keys like the YubiKey, which is the most secure form of multi-factor authentication (MFA),” said Derek, VP of Standards and alliances of Yubico Hansen.
“Legacy MFA authentication, such as SMS authentication and one-time passcodes (OTPs), have proven to be no longer sufficient for account protection. What has proven to protect users against today’s phishing attacks are YubiKeys, as they give control to the user and only those with access to the physical key can access the account,” Hanson said.
In fact, Yubico claims that 90% of enterprise breaches are related to stolen credentials. Yubico said, “YubiKeys puts the user in control to protect against phishing attacks with the trusted and gold authentication standard. We applaud Apple for the importance of this release.
