ComEd will train and hire 180 new entry-level employees in 2022 to meet the demands of Illinois’ clean energy transformation

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The clean energy transformation in Illinois requires a highly skilled energy workforce, and ComEd is investing to expand learning paths and recruit more diverse local talent to meet on future demand. To prepare for the growth of clean energy and the electrification of transport and other sectors, ComEd announced today that it will hire 180 new entry-level employees in 2022 and fill 500 entry-level positions over the next three coming years.

On May 23, ComEd will begin the next phase of its hiring efforts for the year by inviting local job seekers to apply for 70 new overhead helper jobs posted on its online job site. Qualified candidates will begin a paid apprenticeship program with ComEd, where they will earn $28 per hour during training and have the opportunity to earn full-time employment as a unionized line worker with the company upon completion. .

Industry data shows that careers in public services offer competitive pay – up to 35% higher than other US industries. At ComEd, the average starting salary for a housekeeper is over $80,000 per year.
