Clinical Professor of Legal Writing and Research – Open position at NEW YORK UNIVERSITY ABU DHABI

The description

NYU Abu Dhabi is calling for applications for a faculty position (continuing contract/open rank) as a Clinical Professor of Legal Writing and Research in the Division of Legal Studies, Arts and Humanities with appointment starting August 2023 for the 2023-24 academic year.

Applicants should have a graduate degree in law and special interests and expertise in the US and UK legal systems and a successful record of teaching legal writing and research.

The teaching load for the year is 4 courses (usually 2 in the fall, 2 in the spring) plus capstone thesis counseling and other standard faculty responsibilities. The primary responsibility is to teach legal writing and research.

NYU Abu Dhabi’s undergraduate legal studies major asks the broad philosophical, cultural, social, economic, political, religious, and ethical questions that are essential to both a thorough understanding of law and the teaching of the arts. liberals. What is justice? What is the law? How is it organised? Who and what constitutes the arbiter of justice? What are the effects of historical, cultural, religious and national contexts on law and justice? Is the developing global society on the path to a just and moral order, and what role can the law play? What are the legal issues raised by global concerns such as those relating to the environment, technology and cybersecurity? The design of the legal studies program responds, in part, to the increasing globalization of law by considering issues such as the environment, the rule of law, international business, law and the media, human rights people, technology and security, and law and ethics. At the same time, recognizing that the law retains a local orientation, the program addresses the major issues raised by globalization through the study of particular examples drawn from common law, civil law and other legal systems. The Legal Studies major is an approach to the study of law rooted in the liberal arts tradition. Integrating legal studies with liberal arts education enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary study. The legal studies curriculum falls within both the social sciences and the arts and humanities, and so it aims to serve as a bridge between these divisions. The program aspires to foster in students the will and ability to act in a truly human way, which involves qualities such as serving as an advocate for individual rights and a builder of the common good.
