Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office offers summer camp program for children

Applications are being accepted for several summer youth camps and programs offered by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Activities include everything from gun safety education and target shooting to basketball games. Here is a list of camps and activities:

The directory Youth summer recreation program sponsored by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office begins June 6, providing safe summer activities for area youth.

Age of children and adolescents 10 to 18 can participate in basketball and table games like checkers, cards and dominoes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The activities will take place in the gymnasiums of North Caddo High School on Airport Road in Vivian; Fair Park Middle School, 3222 Greenwood Rd; Booker T. Washington High School, 2104 Milam Street; and Woodlawn High School, 7340 Wyngate Blvd.

Each location is supervised by instructors provided by the Caddo School Board. Advance registration is not required and there is no charge; however, participants must register. The program will continue until July 11.

Sheriff’s Safety Town will offer one day safety programs from June 16 to July 29 for groups wishing to learn more about safety. Assistants will teach the basics of personal safety, bicycle and motor vehicle safety, fire safety, gun safety, and stranger danger. Each program will be adapted to the group that requests it.

the Caddo Sheriff Youth Gun Education Camp will be held July 11-13 at the Regional Sheriff’s Training Academy. Boys and girls ages 10-13 can choose any day of the week to join Caddo Assistants on the range for supervised training in gun safety and target practice with a .22 rifle. Additionally, campers will learn internet safety, first aid and survival skills.

Each camp session begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Camp is free and transportation is available if needed. Applications for gun camp can be obtained online HERE or picked up at Sheriff’s Safety Town. Applications should be mailed to the Training Academy at 15639 Highway One South, Shreveport, 71115to complete the registration process.
