Bonnie Gorrell Obituary – The Beaver County Times

Bonnie Lee (Ross) Gorrell, 86, formerly of Beaver Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 2, 2022 at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, Youngstown.

Born October 11, 1935 in Brookfield, OH, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn (Libeg) Ross and the late Raymond Ross, Sr.

Bonnie was called Mom, Grandma, Sister, Dear Friend, as well as Boss, Feisty, Spunky, Fun, Hardworking, and Fiercely Independent. She never met a stranger and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

She lived her entire adult life in the Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania area and married her late husband on May 23, 1953. She was involved in his community for over 60 years. A few highlights would be that Bonnie was a Den Mother, promoted to Den Coach from 1968 to 1974 where she served alongside Jack in the Boy Scouts of America while their sons were growing up. She was active in her North Sewickley Presbyterian Church family for many years and held many positions; including simply being a light that would shine on everyone she met. For many years, until recently, she coordinated the Christmas Day meal service team at Beaver Falls High School.

Bonnie had a passion for helping others. This was evident in the jobs she held while working for Dr. Sutton in Beaver Falls from 1970 to 1988. She then went to work at Beaver Valley Medical Center, where she served as a clinical technician until her retirement in 2008 If you knew Bonnie, you know she couldn’t sit still, so after she retired, she got a part-time job. at This & That in downtown Beaver Falls until 2020.

All of this and she had time to be a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and sister. Bonnie was very loyal to her dearest friends, Mrs. Lois Hemphill, Mrs. Pat Wolfe and Mrs. Margie Lathom.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, in 2001; and a sister, Ramona Ross.

Bonnie is survived by her sons; John (Lori) Gorrell from Canfield, OH, and David (Lisa) Gorrell from Lebanon, PA; his grandchildren, Zachary Gorrell, Brittany (Austin) Elwonger, Michael Gorrell, Katie Gorrell, Erin (Bryce) Troxell and Hannah Gorrell; his sisters, Patricia (Raymond) Haun and Lucretia (Richard Newlin) Varga; and one brother, Raymond Ross; brother-in-law, Jerry (Dee) Gorrell, and sister-in-law, Belva Gorrell.

The family would like to thank St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown and Hospice of the Valley Hospice House for their thorough and very kind care of Bonnie during her final days.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, October 5 at 11 a.m. at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church, 106 Chapel Dr., Ellwood City, PA 16117. Lunch will be served immediately following the services in the hall church social.

Private interment will be in the mausoleum at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Bonnie kindly suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, PA 15001.
