DEPUTY SHERIFF
++Minimum qualifications++
- Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license (or obtain one within 60 days of becoming an Indiana resident) and have no more than 8 active points
- Must be a US citizen
- Be at least 21 years old on the date of appointment
- Must be drug free and have no felony convictions
- Must not have been convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery, stalking, or violation of protective order
- Must not have any OWI convictions in the last 5 years prior to the time of application
- Must not have been disgraced from the army
- Must be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate
- Have not used illegal drugs in the past three years
- Not have illegally purchased, sold (dealed), or possessed marijuana in the year prior to the date of application
- Not have purchased, sold (dealed) or possessed any controlled substance or narcotic except marijuana without a prescription within 3 years prior to the date of application
- ** Lateral applicants MUST meet all of the minimum pre-employment qualifications listed above and currently hold ILEA Tier I certification. Lateral applicants must also submit a Test Waiver Request, which can be found in the documents section of this announcement.
++Salary and benefits++
- Base rate $58,388 to $60,841
- The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office uses a 20-year pay matrix. Side-entry candidates can start with up to three years credit on the current compensation matrix. The starting salary will be calculated based on the candidate’s years of full-time and sworn experience. Full years as a reserve, part-time or volunteer service will not be credited in the compensation matrix. Annual salary increases based on the current 20-year matrix up to $74,737 for the patrol. Rank and seniority are non-transferable and will not be considered for paid time off or for planning purposes.
- In addition to base pay, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office offers incentive pay for Water Rescue, Accident Reconstruction, Crime Scene Investigator, and Special Weapons (SWAT).

++Selection process++
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office selection process can take up to 6 months and includes the following steps. Written and physical aptitude exams may be waived for lateral applicants.
