Secure State has announced that it has become the first organization in Australia to be officially approved by the United States to help companies achieve Cybersecurity Maturity Model (CMMC) certification, paving the way for South Australian companies to grow in the US defense supply chain.
In a coup for South Australia’s burgeoning cybersecurity sector and the wider defense industry, Secure State director and founder Luke Smith says he is the first and only Australian – and the first outside the US – to be approved by the US as registered for CMMC – meaning Secure State is able to guide South Australian and Australian businesses through the framework , in order to gain access to the US Department of Defense supply chain.
“This is a game-changer for companies here in South Australia in the local defense supply chain and across the country looking to tap into the US defense supply chain, to help grow their business while supporting jobs and economic growth in this vital sector,” said Mr. Smith.
“We are extremely proud that Secure State has achieved this approval which will allow us to help customers in turn obtain the required certification in the United States so that they can access what is a lucrative market, and which should be increasingly important to the nation and our region on the back of the AUKUS agreement.
“Our message to local businesses in South Africa – the State of Defense – as well as those across the country, is that now is the time to bring your business up to speed on cybersecurity, as it is a consideration absolutely vital for all businesses, no matter the size.
The CMMC is an assessment framework and assessor certification program designed to increase confidence in measures of conformance to various standards published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States.
The CMMC framework and model were developed by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, for the United States Department of Defense.
Secure State is the first international organization of registered providers to be able to offer advice and implementation to Australian businesses requiring CMMC.
“If a local defense supply chain company aspires to become a US Department of Defense contractor, the reality is that CMMC certification is mandatory,” Smith said.
“It’s a cybersecurity framework that applies to all contractors and subcontractors dealing with the Department of Defence, which works with over 300,000 contractors and subcontractors – so it’s incredibly exciting that companies south -Australian men and women can benefit from it.”
Secure State is a South Australian-owned cybersecurity and IT services consultancy company located in the Tonsley Innovation District.
