ACI Learning CTO Don Pezet Selected to Host RSA 2022 Conference Session Focused on Finding and Developing Cybersecurity Talent

Pezet will be joined by experienced educators, practitioners and resource providers to present and discuss different perspectives on how to fill security jobs in today’s skills-short workforce.

ACI Learning, the leading provider of subscription-based audit, cybersecurity and IT training platforms, today announced that Don Pezet, CTO of ACI Learning and co-founder and Lead Edutainer for ITProTV, will be speaking at the conference. RSA 2022. Pezet will be moderating the session “Talent Shortage: Reality or Myth? Resources for Finding and Developing Talent,” taking place on Monday, June 6 at 2:20 p.m. PT.

The session will present different perspectives on how to fill security positions in today’s skills-short workforce to help people find talent and overcome key barriers to establishing talent. Pezet will be joined by panelists Rita Gurevich, CEO and Founder of SPHERE; John Hammond, Principal Security Researcher at Huntress and prominent YouTuber; and John Strand, owner of Black Hills Information Security. Whether attendees are hiring for their own organization or looking to advance their own careers, this panel will present, review and debate the following approaches to solving this industry challenge:

  • Training programs, free YouTube content, and experiences such as Hack the Box or cybergames that provide great skills

  • The value of certifications versus degrees in acquiring the skills needed for jobs

  • Build or buy? How and when to hire IT staff and train them in cyber roles to build teams through certifications, mentorships and experience instead of paying bonuses for more experienced hires

  • Whether an employer should be responsible for training and career development or whether it is up to individuals

  • Develop accessible platforms and pathways to increase diversity in IT

“One of the biggest hurdles in the workforce today is that the security hiring process doesn’t have a common standard for what counts as ‘hands-on experience.’ Recruiters have always been filtering out the same three certifications and experience details. It’s time to expand our collective views on what qualifies someone for a security role, adjust expectations based on how long it takes to train someone, and consider a broader pool of candidates and where to find them,” Pezet said. “I look forward to moderating this discussion at RSA, to address the need for more portable training, mentoring, and learning , easily accessible and affordable to help people who could have a huge impact on security teams acquire the necessary skills.”

With a career spanning over 25 years, Pezet brings a wealth of knowledge related to IT and security training to the RSA conference. Don is certified as a trainer by vendors such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Google, and Cisco, and his certifications include CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CVE, CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS, PMP, HP Master ASE, MCP , MCSE, MCSA, MCTS, MCITP and LPIC-2.
